The genetic fingerprint is nowadays no longer limited to just criminal forensics. It is used daily in applications such as paternity testing, analysis of genetically-related illnesses or in identifying victims of natural catastrophes. The DNA fragments recovered through polymerase chain reactions (PCR) are separated in a gel electrophoresis process. The DNA samples allow conclusions about their origin. In this example, a criminal case is solved. Sufficient for 10 individual tests.
